Vincent Colliard & Børge Ousland
Nominated for the 21st Century Adventurer Award 2027
Polar Explorer & Adventurer
"Being part of the solution—isn’t that a wonderful opportunity to grow as individuals and as a society, while at the same time taking on more responsibility?" This question inspired Vincent Colliard and Børge Ousland to found the nonprofit organization IceLegacy. Through their project, they aim to cross the 20 largest ice caps on Earth. In doing so, they combine top-level athletic performance, human adventure, and the collection of important scientific data on the polar environment, so that this information can be shared with as many people as possible. The two most outstanding polar adventurers of our time want to draw attention to drastic global warming and highlight how important the preservation of these glaciers and ice caps will be for future generations. The two are ideally suited for this endeavor, as they can draw on years of experience in polar expeditions. Their expertise in completely self-sufficient solo expeditions to both the North Pole and the South Pole, as well as elaborate team expeditions to the coldest and most remote places on Earth, will help them accomplish their ambitious IceLegacy project.
